WORKING WITH STATE SYSTEMS IN TUMKURU AND KENYA

TEACHER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME IN TUMKURU

Following our partnership with the Karnataka Government, Dream a Dream conducted the first Life Skills Facilitation workshop (LSF 1), as part of the Teachers Development Programme, for the first batch of government teachers in Tumkuru. Through this workshop, the teachers gained a deeper understanding of themselves, explored their creativity and helped build a supportive community. The workshop enabled the teachers to explore and expand creative potential, gain an understanding of life skills and learn basic foundational tools on effective child engagement and building safe learning environments for children.

Testimonials

Sannathimmaiah GT – I understood my strengths and more importantly, how to make myself a role model in front of my students and set a good example to the community around me as a teacher. I learnt how to be myself in front of everyone and how to enjoy the activities.

Shrilatha – The training is an activity-based training and we were looking for this kind of training for a long time. We received a chance to understanding in a better way and the lead trainers were involved completely with the group. I started doing these activities in my classroom which the students are really enjoying. We received equal opportunities to share our opinions and work together as a team. This helped us participate and invest ourselves in the workshop, fully. I am looking forward to the same structure of the training in the other LSFs.

DREAM A DREAM WITH AGA KHAN FOUNDATION IN KENYA

In May 2018, Dream a Dream began its collaboration with the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) in their mission to introduce the concept of ‘pluralism’ in the African continent. We were identified as an organisation who would partner with them through our life skill development sessions. We began our partnership conducting life skills sessions with the AKF staff and conducting outdoor experiential camps for the youth in the conflict-hit zones

In April 2019, we are thrilled to be taking the next important step in our partnership with AKF to deliver our Arc of Transformation framework to Kenya. In a span of three weeks, we will train over 170 teachers, head teachers from 10 government schools and AKF staff on our approach of holding space for young people to thrive. The fervent hope is that it will lead to an amplification of a shift in mindset towards education everywhere.
