A movement to shift dominant narratives about the purpose of education to thriving

Change the Script

August 29th-31st 2024

Concept

Change the Script (CTS) weaves together social entrepreneurs, non-profit leaders, academicians, researchers, school leaders, policymakers, young people from across the world to ensure that every child can thrive and expand to their full potential in a just and equitable education system.

Context

Since hosting the first Change the Script gathering in 2015, focused on listening to the voices of young people, we have seen a major shift in the importance and need for life skills or Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in the education landscape. This year, we want to shift the conversation to understand and unpack the systemic barriers that prevent all young people from thriving. We also aim to ensure that the large-scale life-skills interventions are designed equitably to include every child. This can only happen when systems change their markers of success from narrow definitions of academic or employment outcomes, to broader objectives of thriving.

The Invitation

At Change the Script 2024, we want to unpack and look deeply at our own intersectional stories and explore how unexamined and unconscious biases reinforce the status quo in the systems around us. We need partners willing to look beyond the attributable outcomes of social change, to create a thriving world where our success is measured not by our ability to get somewhere, but simply by our ability to walk together on our journey to redefine success.
