Dr. Alim Chandani is a prominent advocate for the deaf community and currently serves as the Mission Leader of the Hear A Million collective at Enable India. With a doctorate in administration and supervision in special education from Gallaudet University— the world’s only liberal arts university for the Deaf— Dr. Chandani has dedicated his career to empowering the deaf community through various impactful initiatives. He has spearheaded projects such as Centum-GRO Initiative, the Deaf Leadership Program (DLP), Freedom to Sign, and the Global Reach Out (GRO) Initiative, which aim to bridge the gaps between the deaf and hearing worlds. His noteworthy contributions have earned him several prestigious awards, including the NCPEDP Mphasis Award and the Bharti Changemaker Award. As a social entrepreneur, he also launched Freedom to Sign™, a social business that promotes Indian Sign Language and supports Deaf artists. Additionally, Dr. Chandani serves as an International Board Member of Happy Hands School for the Deaf and is a lifetime member of the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) in India. Born Deaf in Mumbai, he moved to the United States in 1986 and returned to India in 2016, continuing his mission to create a more inclusive society for the Deaf.
